When it comes to renting dumpsters, many people don't consider how important it is to pack the dumpster efficiently.
Why is packing a dumpster properly important?
The main reason you should pack your dumpster rental properly is because you will save money. It is federal law that dumpsters cannot be filled over a certain line in order to prevent any damages if debris fly out onto the highway when a truck is driving.
If you overfill your dumpster, the company will not take it and ask you to take out waste to prevent overfilling and you might need to get a new rental in order to throw everything away. This means it will cost you money to not pack your dumpster efficiently.
Break Down your Trash
You need to break down your bulkier objects first before starting to load your trash into the dumpster. This means you should break down furniture like tables by removing the legs, or chairs and couches. It might be harder to break down furniture like couches so don't worry about wasting time on breaking your couch.
Flat Objects First
If you want to optimize the space of a dumpster rental, it's a good idea to throw away flat objects first. Flat objects can be broken down cardboard boxes, doors, wooden boards, etc. You want to put the flat objects first so you can have more available space in your dumpster rental.
Heavy Items on the Bottom
After you add the flat objects, it's important to throw heavier objects on top of that first layer. This allows you to really pack those flat objects on the bottom layer. Make sure that you're fitting the heavy objects together so there are no gaps in-between the waste.
Fill in the Gaps
You're most likely gonna have gaps between bulkier items such as furniture, so in order to maximize the dumpster space, you should fill in the gaps with finer debris such as gravel, smaller debris and even trash bags of waste.
Keep the Weight Even
Make sure that you keep the weight distributed evenly throughout the dumpster rental. We wanna make sure that the truck and dumpster don't flip over when they are taking turns and keeping the weight even in the dumpster will help prevent this from happening.
